Job Description

This position is located at Antioch Park (6501 Antioch Rd, Merriam, KS 66202). Antioch Park is JCPRD's oldest and most popular park, attracting up to 700,000 visitors each year. Purchased in 1956 and opened in 1958, the 44-acre park includes amenities such as the two fishing lakes, walking paths, tennis courts, picnic shelters, basketball court, restrooms, the historic Dodge Town play area, and playground. Over three miles of paved walking trails wind through the park.

  • Position performs park maintenance and field level supervision for JCPRD Parks and facilities including but not limited to cleaning trails, restrooms, shelters, picnic areas, playgrounds, parking lots, and water features.
  • This position assists the NE region assistant park manager in the performance and field level supervision of maintenance duties that includes snow removal, mowing, trimming, weeding, trash disposal, cleaning of grounds, bathrooms, landscape beds, and picnic shelters.
  • The position also routinely provides daily direction regular maintenance and repairs on irrigations systems, vehicles, tractors, small engines, water line repairs, electrical, carpentry, and other related duties.

Job Requirements

  • Supervises, directs, and assists crews in completing assignments; trains new crew members; Coordinates, manages, and oversees snow removal; consults with designers and planners on projects involving grounds and landscaping; ensures safety standards are met.
  • Operates vehicles and powered equipment; completes commercial mowing and snow removal; applies chemicals and spreads fertilizers, herbicides and soil amendments; mulches tree beds, plants trees, and flowers; aerates and seeds landscaping; trims and prunes shrubs and trees; repairs soil erosion; manages turf and chemical applications; oversees irrigation and backflow program for JCPRD.
  • Performs various tasks requiring equipment, vehicle, and tool operation; uses a variety of small and large tools and operates a variety of light and medium duty equipment and attachments including: tractors, trucks, dump trucks, skid steer loader, water trucks, compact rollers, excavator, power broom, and snow removal equipment; performs general and routine maintenance of light and medium duty equipment; changes over from mowing equipment to snow equipment.  
  • Verifies request for goods and services against County contracts and funding sources; orders goods or services and follows-up/resolves discrepancies and ensures delivery; ensures appropriate routing and approval of purchase requests; completes and submits paperwork, timesheets and equipment logs.
  • Completes and approves paperwork, timesheets, work orders, and equipment logs using computerized system; follows purchasing card guidelines and completes approval process.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
