Job Description

  JCPRD seeks an energetic competitive assistant swim coach to join our team!  This position:

  • Assists in hiring, training, and supervising site coaches, ensuring all programs are implemented in a safe and effective fashion.
  • Sets detailed practice schedules, arranging aquatic facility rentals as needed.
  • Sets detailed development plan for athletes, ensuring appropriate site coaches adhere to and implement the plan to ensure athlete development.
  • Is responsible for ensuring adherence to USA Swimming Safe Sport guidelines.
  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with athlete parents, community organizations, school districts, and other swim groups to ensure productive partnerships are formed and maintained at a level of excellence.
  • Assists in implementing public relations and communication plan to promote the value of the Blazers organization.
  • Responsible for designing and organizing clinics and special events.
  • Leads the development of a High Performing Organization through active demonstration of the county’s Pillars of Performance, encouraging leadership and empowerment at all levels of the organization; dedicates QII activities for self and staff; actively mentors, coaches and collaborates with employees to enhance the county mission and vision keeping in mind the common goal of leaving our community better than we found it.
  • Creates, provides, and supports age and skill level-appropriate curriculum for athlete development and progression, assigning athletes to appropriate groups; ensures programs are evaluated effectively while using feedback to make improvements; develops and maintains relationships with community organizations; promotes district-wide programs and initiatives.
  • Provides information to patrons, develops and maintains program area knowledge with the goal of providing valuable competitive experiences, promoting the sport of swimming, and meeting the needs of the patron; ensures and maintains a safe environment.
  • Supervises, hires, evaluates, trains, and schedules part-time staff to instruct and/or oversee programs.
  • Adheres to monthly budget responsibilities by understanding budget revenues/expenses for each site.
  • Participates in meetings, planning, and district-wide involvement; attends district-wide and staff meetings; participates in committees; understands and supports district-wide strategic; provides support and coverage for coworkers as needed.
  • Assists with all meet responsibilities.
  • Assists with travel plans for team travel.
  • Days/Hours: Typically, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m./5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Monday – Friday; Evenings and weekends, as needed, for meets and special events.

 

Job Requirements

 

  Education:  

  • Required – High School diploma
  • Required - Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Sports Management or Related Field.
  • Required - Minimum Job Age:  21
  • Required - Valid Driver's License; Driving use of County vehicle and Personal vehicle for County Business.

     Professional Experience:  

  • Required – 2 years Competitive swim experience as a coach.
  • Required – 2 years aquatic programming.
  • Required – Knowledge of stroke and turn mechanics.

  Required Skills:  

  • Ability to create collaborative partnerships within the regional swimming community. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to supervise and lead part-time staff to provide excellent customer service.
  • Attention to detail in formulating practice schedules and development plans. 
  • Project management skills to assist overall membership and budget goals. 
  • Knowledge of swimming stroke and turning mechanics.
  • Analytical skills, including research skills, ability to interpret data, ability to conceptualize, ability to analyze information, and ability to write formal recommendations based on findings.
  • Basic mathematical and accounting skills.
  • Microsoft Suite computer experience.
  • Oral communication skills, including presentations to individuals and small groups.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, facilitation skills; including curriculum/agenda development, marketing skills, ability to help groups focus and encourage participation.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills.

Preferred Skill:

  • Working knowledge of public sector administration.

  • Excessive standing and/or walking

  • Lifting: 50 lbs. or more

SCREENING EMPHASIS:  

  • Proven experience in swim team coaching, staff leadership, and collaborative partnerships. 
  • The desire to learn, grow, share ideas, and implement changes; positive attitude; strong people skills.
