Job Description

  • Serves as primary videographer and photographer for the department; designs, produces, and posts photographic and video content on social media sites, web pages and digital content across a variety of platforms; manages all aspects of video productions.
  • Contributes to the planning, integration, and implementation of all department marketing and communication initiatives; develops and implements strategies to increase the reach of JCPRD content by monitoring and reporting on metrics and analytics for measuring engagement and making recommendations for continued improvement.
  • Manages projects involving multiple partners, with overlapping timelines/deadlines with recordings and platforms for video content, including editing, uploading, and assisting with event production as needed; maintains Johnson County branding on platforms; develops and monitors production guidelines and standards for department staff.
  • Produces and monitors live-streamed events to ensure the correct content and format is being presented at the right times to the audience, including but not limited to department meetings and special events; coordinates with outside vendors as needed.
  • Provides videography and photography training to other staff.
  • Provides overall visual communication support to communications team, takes photos/video, including cell phone photos and video, for social media and other purposes; assist at community outreach events and other duties as assigned, which may include ensuring social accessibility and streaming support.

Job Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in a professional organization creating and editing digital graphics, videos, social media, and website content, to include working with digital photography or videography and other digital tools to help with social media and web site content or relevant experience.
  • Background checks (pre-selection and/or post offer)
  • Valid Kansas Driver's License and personal vehicle used for County Business with Intermediate driving (5% - 25%)
  • Lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Analytical skills, including research skills, ability to interpret data, ability to conceptualize, ability to analyze information, and ability to write formal recommendations based on findings.
  • Computer software experience with Adobe Creative Suite including Premier, Photoshop, Illustrator, Audition, and InDesign as well as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Prezi.  Video editing software such as Final Cut Pro, IMovie, etc.
  • Keyboarding ability.
  • Human Relations/Interpersonal skills.
  • Written communication skills, including business writing, report writing, summarizing, and editing skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Project management skills, including organization, coordination of duties, and/or accomplishment of goals.
  • Time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines.
  • Video scripting and production skills.
  • Working knowledge of popular online communication platforms.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in the following field(s) of study:  Marketing, Journalism, Communications, Advertising, Digital Media, or relevant field.
  • Experience with on-camera skills for live event production (audio/video and troubleshooting), and other media and PR events.
  • Basic mathematical and accounting skills.
  • Budget-related skills, including advanced accounting, math, and statistics skills.
  • Oral communication skills, including presentations to: Individuals, small groups and large groups.
  • Facilitation skills, including curriculum/agenda development, marketing skills, ability to help groups focus, ability to use group decision making to gain commitment, and/or ability to encourage participation.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills, including motivation, delegation of duties, evaluation, strategic planning skills, goal setting skills, assessment skills, collaboration skills, and complex decision-making skills.
  • Working knowledge of public sector administration.
