Job Description

  • Maintenance Operations  – Directs and guides maintenance operations at Mid-America Sports Complex, Okun Fieldhouse, and Mid-America West Sports Complex in alignment with the County’s and department’s overall goals and objectives; ensures the execution of efficient processes to maximize the County’s and department’s resources; utilizes operational knowledge to make sound decisions, uses preventative maintenance best practices and process to help the longevity of building infrastructure, sports surfaces, and equipment.
  • People Management – Clearly defines subordinate roles and responsibilities; motivates employees to perform and delegates work effectively; applies consistent performance standards and handles performance problems decisively and objectively; leads by example.
  • Strategic Leadership – Determines the strategic direction of both the full time and part-time maintenance team in alignment with overall county goals; effectively communicates strategies internally and externally; creates a culture to support strategies and provides mechanisms to implement them; fosters buy-in and enthusiasm with employees.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for recreation sports complexes and facilities, ensuring the highest levels of cleanliness and safety. Oversees facility system repairs and renovations, working with vendors and district planning department to ensure project completion.  Ensures all building permits and licenses are secured and up to date. Assesses field/facility conditions, assigning staff to appropriate repair projects, daily maintenance tasks, equipment repair/maintenance.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, supervises and evaluates staff for recreation sports complexes and facility maintenance and operations. Ensures all staff have the necessary support needed for their sites and supports staff education and participation on district committees and initiatives.  Shares knowledge, explains duties and helps others acquire higher skill level and contribution for the department. 
  • Aids in the development of and/or manages various facility maintenance budgets, ensuring sound financial status. Identifies and researches any budget issues/questions and works with staff to ensure all department/district guidelines are met - both missionally and financially
  • Oversees the maintenance, repair and scheduling of equipment usage. Works with staff to ensure that all maintenance, repairs and equipment usage are logged and completed in a safe manner and within best practices. 
  • Leads the development of a high performing organization through active demonstration of the county’s pillars of performance, encouraging leadership and empowerment at all levels of the organization; dedicates QII activities for self and staff; actively mentors, coaches, and collaborates with employees to enhance the county mission and vision keeping in mind the common goal of leaving our community better than we found it.

Job Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • 3 years of maintenance staff supervision.
  • 3 years of sports field or facility maintenance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in the following field(s) of study: Turf Management, Facility Management, or related.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Basic mathematical and accounting skills
  • Computer software: Microsoft Office Suites
  • Keyboarding ability.
  • Human relations/interpersonal skills.
  • Oral communication skills, including presentations to individuals and small groups.
  • Time management skills including the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills, including motivation, delegation of duties, evaluation, strategic planning skills, goal setting skills, assessment skills, collaboration skills, and complex decision-making skills.
  • Project management skills including organization, coordination of duties, and/or accomplishment of goals.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • 3 year’s experience working with a budget.
  • 5 year's experience maintaining multiple synthetic turf athletic fields or ballparks.
  • 5 year's experience with indoor building maintenance including but not limited to fieldhouses, concessions stand, restrooms, and developing/implementing preventative maintenance plans. 
  • Skills for minor or routine facility repairs in electrical, HVAC, and plumbing.
