Job Description

  • Position performs park maintenance for JCPRD sports fields, including baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, and soccer. This position also performs building maintenance as applicable.  Responsible for maintaining all outdoor fields and indoor courts at a level of excellence to ensure safe play and patron satisfaction.
  • Maintenance duties include chemical application, mowing, trimming, weeding, trash collection, snow removal, cleaning of grounds, picnic areas and restrooms. The position performs regular maintenance and repairs on vehicles, tractors, and small engines and the candidates must have the ability to perform duties related to repairs to plumbing, electrical, carpentry and other construction related duties.
  • Aids department maintenance supervisors or specialists in recruiting, hiring, training, supervising and evaluating part-time staff for facility maintenance and/or operations.  Under the guidance of direct supervisor, helps ensure that part-time staff complete assigned duties.  Serves as a leadperson; directs and assists crews in completing assignments; trains new seasonal staff; ensures safety standards are met; completes paperwork and equipment logs; assists in the coordination and direction of contractors; serves as supervisor in the supervisor's absence.
  • Operates vehicles or powered equipment; completes commercial mowing, field dragging and snow removal; applies chemicals and spreads fertilizers, herbicides and soil amendments; aerates grounds, mulches tree beds, plants trees and flowers; trims and prunes shrubs and trees; repairs soil erosion; oversees turf and chemical applications; completes complex tasks, repairs, and manages irrigation and backflow program for outdoor fields. Ensures that fields/facilities are clean, safe and prepared to a level of excellence for program participants and rental groups.  Aids supervisor in overseeing facility system repairs, etc., working with vendors to ensure project completion, ensures all building/permits and licenses are secured and up-to-date.
    • Performs general, routine, and complex maintenance of light and medium duty equipment; rebuilds and repairs equipment and trailers; changes over from mowing equipment to snow equipment; performs basic maintenance duties such as painting, light plumbing, cleaning of shop and equipment areas; builds, fixes, and maintains fencing; completes basic preventative maintenance on building/field maintenance equipment. Assists direct supervisor in the implementation of a yearly maintenance plan.
    • Performs various tasks requiring equipment, vehicle, and tool operation; uses a variety of small and large tools and operates a variety of light and medium duty equipment and attachments including: tractors, trucks, dump trucks and snow removal equipment.
    • Completes paperwork, work orders and equipment logs; follows purchasing card guidelines to ensure accuracy in the approval process.

     

Job Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of sports field/lawn/turf care maintenance and/or facility maintenance.
  • Must be 21 or older.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Basic mathematical and accounting skills
  • Computer software: Microsoft Office Suites
  • Keyboarding ability.
  • Human relations/interpersonal skills.
  • Oral communication skills, including presentations to individuals and small groups.
  • Time management skills including the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills, including motivation, delegation of duties, evaluation, strategic planning skills, goal setting skills, assessment skills, collaboration skills, and complex decision-making skills.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Project management skills
  • Direct experience maintaining large multi-faceted athletic facilities.
