Job Description

  • The Scenic Carpenters are responsible for the construction and fabrication of all Theatre in the Park scenic elements and are expected to be able to work both independently and with other team members under the supervision of the Scene Shop Foreman and / or the Master Carpenter.
  • Utilizing several theatrical construction techniques Carpenters will be building on site in the Scene Shop located backstage at Theatre in the Park.
  • Carpenters schedule for the summer is Sunday - Thursday from 7am - 3:45pm with 2 -15min breaks and a 45min lunch.
  • It is rare that we rent set pieces, so all scenic elements are fabricated onsite by our staff using several different materials (lumber, steel, PVC, foam, etc.) within our production deadlines.
  • The best candidates will have the ability to work at a steady pace and still maintain attention to detail.

Job Requirements

  • Work under the supervision of the Scene Shop Foreman and Master Carpenter to construct scenic elements and maintain the scene shop.
  • Familiar with scenic construction techniques and terms.
  • Work independently and with other scenic crew fabricating and installing scenic units.
  • Ensure safety protocols are always observed.
  • Proficient with standard shop tools including miter saw, circular saw, table saw, reciprocating saw, angle grinder, hand drills, impact drivers, air compressor and pneumatic stapler / nailer.
  • Ability to accurately read, write, and mark out measurements in feet and inches, including fractions down to 1/16th of an inch.
  • Make repairs and adjustments to set units as needed.
  • Keep scene shop and stage areas clean and clear of construction debris.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs – 75lbs and work from standing, kneeling, or bending positions for extended periods of time.
  • Assist scenic painters or other Theatre in the Park staff as needed.

JCPRD requires reference/background screening for all positions.  Specified criteria may vary by Department.
